Tobias Müller (*1987 in Neunkirchen Saar) creates modular systems, realized in both interior and exterior spaces. Each work is a specific configuration that emerges from the encounter between the respective system and the given spatial and material conditions. In this way, Tobias Müller combines a rule-based approach with an openness to situational decisions and ever-new compositional possibilities.
His focus is on processes in which forms slowly develop, change, and dissolve again. He is particularly fascinated by crystallization processes, the growth of moss and lichens, as well as processes of erosion. He is especially interested in the structures and transformations that emerge through growth, accumulation, and decay.
AURORA and ZWILLING are the result of iterative processes in which the parameters are the format of the surfaces to be worked on, the rules for placing the stamps, and the artist’s intuition.
A multitude of approaches and variations were developed in advance in response to the format. This initiated a feedback loop of action and observation between the artist and the emerging compositions. The selection of the motifs to be realized also took place within such a feedback loop. The decisive question was whether a composition would “speak” to the artist and “reveal” its title to him.
On the level of content, the two works have no connection to each other. On the compositional level, they share the two groups of three identical enclosed intermediate spaces.
