Cone The Weird (Colin Kaesekamp, *1979 in Munich) began working with graffiti in 1993, developing it into a continuous artistic practice spanning Urban Art, drawing, and design. After working as a storyboard and concept artist in Munich from 2001 to 2003, he studied communication design at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar, graduating with a Diploma with distinction in 2008. Since 2008, he has worked as an independent artist and designer. He co-founded the design studio Bureau Stabil in 2010 and the artist collective The Weird in 2011, and curated exhibitions including “4560 – Urban Art Show” (2012). From 2022 to 2024, he was a guest professor at the HBK Saar.
His visual language is deeply rooted in Urban Art and mural painting; large-scale façades continue to shape his work to this day. Alongside these works, he creates complex analogue drawings that follow the principle of visual sampling: figurative compositions are fragmented, reassembled, and recontextualized. Through visual condensation, he creates multilayered image systems characterized by precise linework and a distinctive formal language. In his work in public spaces, he always responds sensitively to the respective building, the specific site, and its surroundings.
His artistic practice focuses primarily on Europe, while his projects have also taken him to the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong. International workshops and masterclasses, including those at mumok Vienna, complement his practice.
With the two-part work The Knowledge I & II, the artist Cone The Weird explores the transformation of the former industrial site of Landsweiler-Reden. Both on the weathered wall of a geothermal basin (The Knowledge I) and on the exterior surfaces of an industrial container (The Knowledge II), a multilayered ensemble of fragmented, visibly worn books unfolds. In their refined aesthetic, with colours adapted to the surrounding environment, the motifs reference the visual structure and history of the site.
The books—with no titles or visible covers—serve as symbols of the very nature of knowledge itself: it does not emerge all at once, but rather fragmentarily and through continuous human effort. Knowledge provides stability, yet is at the same time delicate, vulnerable, and always at risk of being instrumentalised or forgotten.
As a rigid foreign body within the now naturalised water park, the container embodies a compelling dialectic between industrial heritage, artificial structure, and ecological refuge. The works understand education, craftsmanship, and art as essential tools for rethinking places. They invite viewers to understand the process of transformation from a site of exploitation into a site of culture as a shared and connecting task involving people, nature, and culture.
