Clara Hanzal is an artist from Saarland who works sculpturally and through installations with the media of ceramics and sound. She creates sculptural sound objects and develops experimental instruments from clay, which she uses in installation and performance contexts. In her installations and performances, she creates slowed-down, intimate experiences of perception.
At the centre of her work is the human being—in their physicality and immediate experience, as well as in social dynamics and collective experiences. Her artistic practice also encompasses the creation of spaces: places of social resonance and connectedness, where people can come into contact with themselves and with one another.
BOJEN (buoys)
In an atmosphere of deceleration, the gentle sounds of the buoys colliding with one another, together with the reflections on the water, create a space that invites visitors to linger. Moved by wind, currents, and chance, they come together in groups that drift apart again and reunite in new constellations.
“Bojen” opens up associations with human relationships and points to underlying connections that form within communities. They develop their own dynamic, an expression of social resonance as a phenomenon that describes mutual influence and an intuitive attunement to and with one another. They provide impulses to remember the former vitality of the site, while at the same time creating space to reflect on how we live and come together in the present.
