1. Is it possible to submit an entry for multiple locations?
Yes, this is possible and open to the artist’s individual approach. For example, if it makes sense for the works to be repeated or to interact with one another on site, we are happy to consider such concepts. Likewise, it is of course also possible to engage specifically with a particular location and its conditions.
2. How many NICHES are there?
There are 6 in total.
3. What are the dimensions of the different spaces?
- Wall: Approx. 40 × 52 meters in length and approx. 5.20 meters high at its highest point. It tapers to a point at one end, leading to a ramp, and to a staircase at the other.
- Sun Drop: A wall approx. 35 meters long that extends beyond the steel structure and continues past Item 3 („Niches“). The height is approx. 5.10 meters at its lowest point.
- Niches: 6 distinct spaces — some open at the top, some semi-open, and others enclosed. The Niches vary in length, averaging approx. 4.20 meters in length x 1.80 meters in height.
- Sands: Approx. 54 meters long; roofed (though not rainproof). It slopes down into the surrounding terrain at both the front and rear. The width is approx. 5.20 meters, plus a 2.50-meter-wide pathway.
- Cage: Footprint approx. 54 × 37 meters, featuring varying heights and levels.
4. What are the possibilities for suspending or anchoring a sculptural work to the existing structures?
An anchoring method must therefore be chosen that does not compromise the construction. The site is under heritage protection, so for heavy loads, the suspension points will require structural verification, which should be factored into the planning. Since the site is located in a pit, large surface areas and their associated wind loads must also be taken into account. Regarding „Cage“: In principle, suspending elements from the structure is not an issue, provided that the structure itself remains undamaged.
5. What are the physical/weather conditions at the proposed locations?
Dampness should be expected throughout the entire site, as it is a water garden. In addition, the old structures have openings that allow precipitation to enter, so no surface within the proposed locations can be considered fully sheltered or protected from moisture.
6. Does the budget mentioned in the call for proposals—ranging from 2,000 to 60,000 euros—apply to each selected project, or is that the total amount for all projects combined?
The range of 2,000.00 to 60,000.00 euros refers to a single artwork (including the artist’s fee, production, and installation). The jury will select a balanced mix of larger and smaller works, as well as those with higher and lower budgets, taking into account both emerging and established artists.
The total budget is currently being finalized by the property management and will be announced by the end of October at the latest—in time for the jury meeting.
